I've been seeing flashes of yellow with black tails zooming here and there. Today they were joined with a bright white belly, black top and white side feathers on the tail. That is, an Eastern Kingbird was chasing the Western Kingbirds. A dispute over the best nesting territory, or the juiciest insect feeding grounds? I know it is summer when the Kingbirds finally show up. They seem to be the last of the insectivores to arrive. Sightings will settle down now to "the usual suspects" unless I get enthused enough to take a drive to Oxeley or some other spot to watch from. The hubby just got laid off, and he is supposed to get severance, so perhaps I can coax him into a couple of small trips. :)
