Well, it flies

The wind got blowing so hard here in Why, AZ yesterday that it finally succeeded in blowing our tent down. I was amazed. Of course, it did it while we were gone getting our permit to go onto the Wildlife Refuge. (We plan an early morning hike tomorrow - expect a long entry - I hope). We lay the tent down, put heavy stuff on it, made sure the cats were comfy (they have a little lean-to of their own that was just fine) and retreated to the rec room here for the day.

Much later in the evening, after dark, I stepped outside for a break. Something winged and silent flapped by, swooped, and then zoomed under the overhang here into the light where I could see him. A bat! Quite a bit larger than the bats we used to see in Oklahoma, and very intent on catching the moths around the porch lights. He flew a complete circle around me at waist height, zoomed up and disappeared into the dark.

I've got to work on my vocabulary. I seem to be saying "WOW" an awful lot lately.

Good birding
