For ME with THAT camera - that is a miracle photo. I just happened to catch her while trying to get some pictures of the White Winged and Mourning Doves feeding in the snow right behind the back yard fence. None of the doves came out real good but...

We have another storm driving in so we'll be holed up at the ranch for a few days again. I could think of worse things ;)

I saw some interesting behaviour out of our big rodent eating hawks the other day (Mostly rough shinned). I saw three of them gang up and run off an accipiter (I didn't get a good enough look to identify it). I have been wondering why - with the big flock of doves living in the machine shed - we don't have lots of small bird eating hawks. Seems that the big rodent eating hawks are defending the ranch as "their" territory. Which surprised me - as they don't eat the small birds or doves at all - so they are not in direct competition.

When it snows the coyotes chase the rabbits all over the back pasture. We saw a hawk on the ground the other day. When I got back there, nothing was left but tufts of bunny fur. I suspect a coyote caught one of our Desert Cottontails, ate most of it, and the hawk was just cleaning up. Three ravens were waiting on the fence, too. Nothing goes to waste in this time of year, that's for sure.
