For all my driving back and forth this week, I haven't added lots of exciting sightings to my list. Back home the Say's Phoebe is busy around the house, and the flitting little sparrows of every variety are chattering up a storm. The doves are full of spring amour and doing lots of cooing and dashing around. I keep hearing a scaled quail proclaiming his territory in the mornings - but he is far enough from the house that I can't see him at all. I have seen my beloved little Gambel's Quail up by Elephant Butte Lake - but none on the ranch at all. I am thinking that after I get my first couple batches of chickens raised this spring, I may turn the brooder over and raise one run of the Gambel's Quail to turn loose, just for fun.
