Golden Eagles and moreThe good thing about having a job is driving in and out of town so often. For instance - I saw my first Golden Eagle a few days ago. My first impression was - what is that HUGE bird. As we drove closer and slowed to the side of the road, he circled and landed on a nearby fence post. The sun hit him, turning him into a statue of bronze with gold head and neck. Absolutely beautiful. Even driving in and out at night - we are working the graveyard shift - is an adventure. Our biggest numbers yet are nine Black Tailed Jackrabbits, five Kangaroo Rats, two small mice (probably Grasshopper Mice), and a skunk that ran down the road right in front of us for a while before diving into the bushes on the side. We gave him allllll the time he wanted - LOL. We also see the occasional ring-tailed cat, bats, and now and then a glimpse of a Great Horned Owl. Even though I miss my Internet - I love living out on the ranch! Well, I'm being told my time is up. Good birding.
