Circus of the Spineless and Dragonfly seasonIt is becoming dragonfly season around here. The hubby pointed out one stuck to the nose of our car the other day :( Probably, from the looks of it, a Skimmer or Meadowhawk. Which got me to thinking about Dragonfly Festivals. Turns out the one at Bitter Water, which I enjoyed so much a couple of years ago, isn't until August. If the Bosque del Apache is planning another, they haven't begun to publicize it yet. The closest I could find was one wayyyyyyy South in Texas in May - which I've missed now but what with gas prices... Payday is this week though - so I can at least make a trip to town and look along the Rio Grande for dragonflies and maybe even spring the big bucks for a day pass to one of the State Parks. I'll take along the binoculars and the new bird guide, and the excellent dragonflies of the Southwest guide I bought last year. I love sketching dragonflies, too, and all my old drawings seem to have vanished somehow - what a good excuse to start a new "collection". (The old ones are probably all in storage in Tulsa, come to think of it) I haven't seen a single dragonfly here at the ranch, although we had a number of Mayflies show up. Interesting fellows, who are not in any buide I have, so I can't point fingers or call them names ;) but I always tell them hello - and if necessary escort them out of the house. Enjoy the circus!
