Fairy "Jungle Gyms"

Last weeks little visit about the fairy gardens reminded me of the “fairy toys” I have created for the pixies and fey to enjoy in my own house.

Probably the best was a wicker light shade that came with one house. I added a hand beaded “fringe”. Each strand was different with plenty of sparkly and found objects, beads and crystals, and each ended with something metallic or crystalline so that whenever it moved it made soft tinkling noises. It hung over the bed in our bedroom.

Even though he claims he cannot see the fey as I do, the hubby enjoyed watching with me as the shade swayed and twirled lightly, the beads jingling and pinging, when there was no breeze in the house. I like to think the fey really enjoyed that one.

I’ve made a couple out of long driftwood limbs found by the river. I like to suspend them from the ceiling and then hang strands of beads and found objects tied to fishing line. I’ve had to start hanging them higher and be more aware of the objects below them since we got the kitten though. She loves to play with the fairy jungle gyms, too. However, she is a bit more rigorous than the fey and things tend to break when she leaps to “play Tarzan” and swing from them!

To my shame I haven’t built a new fey jungle gym since we moved into this apartment. I better get after it. I noticed they were tormenting Pearlie the Psychic Kitty last night. They had her looking all around for who tickled her tail or her ear and dashing back and forth, leaping and whirling to catch them. Fat kitty needs some exercise. Maybe the fey thought so, too!

Fey jungle gyms are just fun to build and enjoyable to have. Any found object will do for a base and any pretty bead or shiny thing is perfect to add. Old sparkly rhinestone and bead jewelry from garage and estate sales are wonderful and I wound an old feather boa around one bit of driftwood – hot pink! They are never actually done, because every time you find something to add, there is a new addition! You might not think there are any fey in your house –but if you build it…they will come.
