Raw Food and Veggie support groups

I ran on to a couple of articles in todays Happy News. If you aren't already on their mailing list - you really ought to be. It is a wonderful antidote to the news you are getting from CNN or your Excite homepage or wherever you normally find your news.

The first article to catch my eye was A Cornucopia of friendship and support - Seattle Veggie Families about a group that began as an email list for veggie families in Seattle to share recipes and veggie friendly events and restaurants and became so much more than that for the families involved. It can be very difficult to raise vegetarian children when all the world around them seems determined to feed them meat at every holiday celebration. Often, your own family will do their best to circumvent your decision. I know I've certainly felt like the only vegetarian on earth from time to time. How nice it would be to find a group like this in my own area...

The second article is Raw food and a new life. I firmly believe that dreams do have messages for us, and that life brings to us the opportunities we desire and need. This article is a perfect example. Omar Abou-Ismail saw a woman in a dream, where she handed him the book of life. The very next day, he saw that woman in real life. After explaining to her husband why he wanted so much to meet her, he was invited to dinner. There he was treated to a delicious raw food meal, and handed a brochure about the raw food lifestyle that changed his life. Now he runs a very successful raw food restaurant in Salt Lake City. Yum, wish I could go visit! I'm always looking for new raw food recipes that don't need some mega-buck kitchen utensil to create.

*chuckle* I attended about ten minutes of a "raw food recipes" class at the local health food store. The lady began by plugging her kitchen utensil with "I want to show you that you have not just purchased a $200+ dollar blender, but -". My instant reply was "You're damn right I didn't just buy a $200+ dollar blender, or anything else of the sort!" I gathered up my notebook and left. No wonder people think being on a raw food diet is difficult!

Mind you, I don't think I could go to a 100% raw food diet - but we are eating about 50% raw now and I must say we can both tell there is a big difference in our energy level and health. And we still haven't purchased a $200 blender ;)

Good eating!
