Hubby's wonder vege gravies
After much experimentation and taste testing, the hubby has decided that these two gravies meet with his approval. His diet is big on potatoes, and he loves gravy with his potatoes, so these will be very useful for us! Please note that we do not cook with salt at all, and these are fine without. However, if you are used to having salt in everything, then add salt to taste.
Creamy gravy
- ¼ c. butter or margarine
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 2 c. milk
- Pepper to taste
In small saucepan over medium heat melt butter, add flour & pepper, and stir until smooth. Stir in liquid, bring to a boil, and boil until smooth & thickened, stirring constantly.
“Brown” gravy
- ¼ c. butter or margarine
-
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
-
- 2 c. water
- 1 to 2 tablespoons soy sauce (we use Braggs soy sauce with liquid amino acids)
- Pepper to taste
In small saucepan, melt butter; add cornstarch, pepper & soy sauce. Stir until smooth. Add water, bring to boil. Boil until smooth & thick, stirring constantly.
Both yield about 2 cups
Good eating! Summer
